AC Compacting is able to supply you with clutches, couplings and brake linings for your PIV variable speed mechanical drives. There are several types of couplings found in or attached to PIV drives.

Safety overload couplings are used to allow for a certain amount of slippage to occur in order to prevent damage to the drive or machinery when torque exceeds a certain preset limit. These couplings consist of the following parts: A set of springs is used to apply force (springs are rated in newton/meters) to the brake linings. The springs are specific to the drive application, and cannot be substituted with other types of springs. A pair of brake linings, similar to the brake linings found in automobile drum brakes. An external drum. The brake linings are held to the inner surface of the drum by friction and pressure applied by the springs. An internal hub to hold the springs and linings together and transfer power to the brake linings. These parts are available from us separately or we can supply the entire safety overload coupling.

"Soft start" couplings are used to prevent sudden jerking motions which can damage the drive or machinery when torque is suddenly applied to the shaft. These couplings usually consist of semi-elastic inserts (usually rubber or plastic) inside a metal housing, which stretch when torque is applied, thereby allowing for a gradual increase in torque to the output shaft. We usually supply our customers with the replacement inserts.

Electromagnetic clutches are also found in PIV drives. These types are found in PIV drives used in the paper industry. Electromagnetic clutches found in G3A5DU PIV drives of an internal clutch assembly (tracking plate, kick-in plate and coil) plus a set of external brushes. The internal clutch assembly is replaced as a unit, while it is possible to replace the external brushes and brush holders. Another type of electromagnetic clutch consists of two parts and is found in multi-step gearboxes.
